Acceptance of terms
- As an Addictionology web user and/or advertiser you are subject to the following Terms and Conditions (T&C).
- Addictionology reserves the right to amend these T&C when necessary without notice to you.
- By accessing and using www.addictionology.co.za you accept and agree to be bound by the T&C.
- Acceptance of the T&C by advertisers who submit their registration forms and acceptance of Addictionology of the fees payable; thereafter constitutes a legal contract between both parties.
Description of Addictionology services
- Addictionology provides members of the public with access to an exclusive collection of resources relating to the addiction and recovery field within South Africa. These include: listings of treatment centres, professionals and counsellors who work with addiction, addiction and recovery organisations, support groups, organisations and individuals providing services in the creation of new lifestyle-related activities, as well as newsletters, personal stories and articles, various event listings and, polls.
- Addictionology provides professionals and counsellors who work with addiction with access to an exclusive collection of resources relating to the addiction and recovery field within South Africa. These include: listings of treatment centres, professionals and counsellors who work with addiction, addiction and recovery organisations, support groups, organisations and individuals providing services in the creation of new lifestyle-related activities, as well as newsletters, personal stories and articles, various event listings, polls, current research, CPD listings and academic articles.
- Addictionology does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, gender, sexual preference or religion.
- Addictionology is not associated with any one form of treatment for addiction. Nor does it favour treatment centres, professionals or counsellors. As such, it is an online resource which simply outlines the various types of treatment available for addiction and recovery in South Africa.
- As Addictionology respects the right of self-determination, website users are free to make their own choices based on what resources are listed on the website. Addictionology accepts no responsibility for choices that are made as a result of the content that is on the website.
Advertising criteria
- As long as the criteria to advertise are met, anyone is free to list with Addictionology.
- Addictionology does not accept any treatment centre, professional or service provider who currently has ethical complaints lodged against them.
- Addictionology does not accept any treatment centre that is not registered with the appropriate government departments and that does not meet the legal indicators as set by these departments.
- Addictionology does not accept any professional who is not registered with their appropriate professional board and/or association and who does not meet the legal indicators as set by these boards and associations.
- Applications are accepted on the basis of inclusion criteria, however, Addictionology may act with discretion in certain situations and “right of admission” is reserved.
- Addictionology will conduct reference checks on all advertisers if deemed necessary, in order to protect the users of the website.
- If you decide to advertise with us, you agree to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself/ your treatment centre/ your organisation as prompted by the Addictionology Application Form.
- If Addictionology discovers that any information has been supplied under false pretences, fraudulently or dishonestly – covertly or overtly – the contract will be terminated immediately and no refund will be applicable. Addictionology reserves the right to refuse any and all future use of the website if deemed necessary.
- Although Addictionology has put measures in place to ensure that advertisers meet a variety of criteria and may be thoroughly screened, Addictionology assumes no responsibility for wrongful, misleading or inaccurate information supplied to us by advertisers.
Privacy policy
- Addictionology takes your privacy seriously. Addictionology collects personal information about you when you:
- register with us;
- visit Addictionology pages;
- visit pages of certain Addictionology advertisers and
- enter promotions or competitions.
- We may combine information we have about you with information supplied to us by business partners and other companies. When you register with us we ask for information such as your name, email address, birth date, ID number, gender, occupation and address. Therefore when you register with us you are not anonymous to us.
- Addictionology automatically receives and records information from your computer and browser, including your IP address, cookie information and the pages you request.
- Addictionology uses the information we gather for the following reasons:
- to improve our services,
- to contact you and
- to conduct research.
Refunds, credit and payment
- Refunds are not applicable in any circumstances.
- Contracts and any form of accrued “credit” are not transferable to third parties, even in the event of death.
- Payment methods include electronic fund transfers (EFT) or cash deposits at the bank.
- Proof of payment is to be emailed or faxed to Addictionology. Only once proof of payment has been received will advertisers be listed in the Addictionology directories.
- Addictionology reserves the right to amend its fees as and when it deems necessary.
Submission of stories and articles
- People who submit articles and/or storiesgrant their permission to Addictionology to promote their articles and content to web users of Addictionology.
- Addictionology is not affiliated with any one treatment centre, organisation or individual. As such, specific references to treatment centres, organisations and individuals will not be published.
Professional and personal conduct
- While Addictionology ensures that all advertisers comply with the T&C, we cannot be held responsible for the conduct of treatment centres, professionals and counsellors if connections are made. If clients have complaints about conduct-related issues, they should contact the appropriate government departments and/or professional boards and associations.
- Addictionology indemnifies itself against any untoward behaviour by web users and advertisers. We will not be held responsible for the conduct of individuals if and when they interact, nor for the outcome of the aforementioned interactions.
Copyright and intellectual property
- Addictionology respects the intellectual property of others and we ask our users to do the same.
- Addictionology assumes no responsibility for content on other websites that you may find or access when using Addictionology’s services. Material you come across on other websites may be protected by copyright and intellectual property laws and the terms of use of these websites, and not Addictionology’s Terms and Conditions, govern the use of that material.
- It is in Addictionology’s policy – when the situation is appropriate – to disable and/or terminate the accounts of users who may infringe or repeatedly infringe the copyrights or other intellectual property rights of Addictionology and/or others. Addictionology also reserves the right to make such decisions at its own discretion.
- PLEASE NOTE: Much of the content for this website was sourced from different persons, books, journals, professionals and organisations. Over time, the origin of much of it has been lost. We greatly respect copyright and it is not the intention of Addictionology to plagiarise work. If we have inadvertently done so please contact us in order to rectify this.
