It is NOT true that people who are addicted have to hit ‘rock bottom’ and that they have to want help in order to get better.

Addiction is a disease that feeds off denial. Therefore most people with addictions don’t and won’t acknowledge there is a problem. They usually know that there is something wrong with their lives but they don’t recognise that it has anything to do with their substance use/behaviour. They merely find something or someone else to blame.
